Yarra Valley Water supplies Ringwood, and Melbourne Water treats and transfers the water before it reaches you. Like everywhere else in Melbourne, it is safe to drink, and it met the Safe Drinking Water Regulations in 2024-25.
Ringwood falls within Yarra Valley Water's Warranwood and Croydon sampling areas. Across 2024-25, free chlorine there averaged 0.42 to 0.47 mg/L and peaked at 1.10 mg/L; hardness averaged 18 to 19 mg/L, which counts as soft; and fluoride averaged 0.68 mg/L. Chlorine's health limit is 5 mg/L, but most people can smell it from around 0.6 mg/L, and more so in a hot shower.
In Ringwood, a filter takes out the chlorine taste and smell at every tap and shower, and catches the sediment that can reach your appliances after mains works. Weatherboard and brick veneer homes built here between the 1950s and the 1970s usually have the meter by the front fence, with a front or side wall nearby. Plenty still run their original copper or galvanised service pipe. If the connection at the meter has to be replaced before we can fit anything, your photos will show it and we price that first.
Units on subdivided blocks are fine as long as each one has its own meter. The apartments around Eastland are on a shared building supply, where an under-sink filter makes more sense.
Ringwood leans towards the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, and homes on the north and east sides tend to have more trees and garden around the meter. All the plumber needs is clear access to the meter and the wall next to it.

Sometimes. Old galvanised pipe at the connection can be too corroded to join to safely. If your photos show that, we quote for replacing the short section at the meter before you book. If the pipe is in good shape, it is a standard install.
